SWEDISH DESIGN THAT MAKE A DIFFERENS
The vision as a designer was to make clothes that mothers can wear worldwide. Our ide in the beginning was to design Paola Maria clothes that have a “3inOne design”. This means that the same top, tunic, dress can be worn regardless if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or worn just as normal fashion wear. THE STORY OF PAOLA MARIA
It all started in Southern Sweden, as spring after my own pregnancy and during breast-feeding 2003. I found it hard to find something that was soft, comfortable and pretty. I decided there and then that it was time that someone designed a New model for the modern woman. As the selection then in Sweden was poor and even the quality available on the market seldom pleased me.
After my son Maximilian was born, I decided to create a brand new design that no one else had thought of and that would not associate to nursing clothes. As I like colours and shapes, my challenge was to create a design that was both agreeable on the eye and pleasing to the female figure. The largest need I felt during my own pregnancy was a pair of comfortable jeans, yoga trousers, a top and elegant dress, so that was the reason why the first pattern in our collection included those styles.
Winter of 2004 both the patterns and designs were ready. After that they were design-protected.
I have always loved fashion but, as I am minimalistic, I like small details that makes a large influence on the whole impression, I also like to work with lines that makes a difference for the shapes and also gives a great look.
NURSING ACCESS
I also tought that the horizontal line under the bust with an overlapping and lower-part, whitch is an old American design since 1970, and has been used by many other designers does not give a very fashionable appearancer and does not give the very best fit for the female figure . I decided there fore, that my new style should be feminine, feel like a hole pice and like a normal top without an inside-part and be an advantage for the female figure.
BINDING AND WAIST
With the jeans I was focused on finding a neat solution for the waist without a waist-band and a lot of cloth around the stomach and a style to be more up-to-date so that it would also be suitable for the mother after childbirth. As I also experienced that my own pregnancy-jeans had become completely floppy around the waist and did not fit especially advantageous to my figure until the 8th month.
I also experienced directly after childbirth that my old pregnancy-trousers were too large for the dough-like stomach. I was neither in the mood nor susceptible for shopping around in town and buying a whole NEW wardrobe. So my challenge was to find a design whereby the same trousers could be used from the first happy news of the pregnancy (as the first thing to happen to me was that, without warning, I could not pull up the zipper) during the whole pregnancy and even fit after childbirth. But also be worn as normal fashion as well as pary piece.
YOGA TROUSERS
Since I went to Professional Ballet Academy in school and trained a lot of dance, gymnastics and yoga so it became a natural ingredients in our collection. The focus has been to make the bindings as soft as possible without causing discomfort
My goal with design is to find a fashion that suits all life-styles and to design clothes that all women like to wear in all phases of life.
A better enviroment Organic quality
We introduced the organic clothes February 2008 as we know that the organic quailty is a very much better choice for the enviroment, and we want to take responsibility and make sure as a producer that we are also helping for a better nature. We are aiming from Spring 2010 collection all our clothes will be organic GOTS quality except for our clohtes in fabrics where it is impossible to achieve organic. We are all the time looking in to how to develop new fabrics and qualities witch is better for th enviroment. All other fabrics we are producing in are Oeko-Tex ISO 100 and all our clohtes are free from bad toxin that is bad for your body.
Fall 2009 we realized that there is a big need for super size clothes and that is giving perfect fit, comfortable but also that gives you a great look. There for we developed new styles and we are trying to create all styles very flexible and that also will give you the very best look and feeling.
A better world for the children
As we meet mothers and children everyday and we see the importance of that every one is taking care of the enviroment but also we know the importance of getting the chance for a good fair start in life. We have decided since we released our collection February 2009 that we also want to contribute for a better world. So everytime you are buying a Paola Maria clothe 1% of the profit goes straight to UNICEF and with this we all help to look after children's rights and help a lot for children in undeveloped countries.
